Perfumes for Women | Perfume Types

Perfumes have been in use for centuries especially perfumes for women. There are a number of perfume types. A perfume is basically a mixture of fragrant essential oils, aromatic compounds and solvents. Perfumes are applied to the body or attached to clothing or other objects to produce a pleasant or attractive scent.

They are three main perfume types, namely parfum ( pure perfume or extrait de parfum in French), eau de parfum (EDP) and eau de toilette (EDT). The difference is the in the concentration of essences. Parfum has the highest concentration followed by eau de parfum and eau de toilette in that order. There is also eau de cologne which has a lower concentration and finally eau fraiche with the lowest.

Eau de cologne fragrances target mostly men. The name is derived from where it came from originally, Cologne, Germany. Eau fraiche has a concentration of about 1 to 3% perfume. Parfum is the most expensive followed by eau de parfum and then eau de toilette. Eau de toilette generally lasts for two to three hours. It is important to know this difference so as not to be disappointed by results.
